Off of the central coast of New Jersey in Ocean County, the 18-mile long Long Beach Island runs north-south and ranges from a few blocks to a mile wide. It is part of the Intercoastal Waterway and is one of several barrier islands along the New Jersey coast. There are over 20 communities, including Beach Haven, on the island. Some have yacht clubs and marinas. Industries that provide employment in the Long Beach Island area include educational, health and social services, arts, entertainment, recreation, accommodation and food services, retail trade, real estate, construction and public administration.
At the southern end of Long Beach Island, below Beach Haven Inlet, is the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. Students in grades K-5 attend schools of the Long Beach Island School District, and those in grades 6-12 attend schools of the Southern Regional School District. Several colleges and universities are in proximity for those who wish to attain a degree in higher education.

Harvey Cedar real estate ranges from the low $600,000s to more than $2 million. Surf City homes are priced from the high $400,000s to $2 million. Homes in the various communities in Long Beach Township range from the low $400,000s in Beach Haven Crest and Beach Haven Terrace to $6.5 million in Loveladies.
Condominiums and townhouses are found primarily in Beach Haven where prices range from the mid-$200,000s to more than $1 million. Condominiums in Ship Bottom start in the low $200,000s and units in Beach Haven Terrace are priced from the high $200,000s. Townhouses in Spray Beach, Holgate, and North Beach Haven start above $500,000. All properties on Long Beach Island have beach access. Many are on the water either at the ocean or on a bay. Lots and land are also available for custom development.
